This chapter provides guidelines developed by the International Test Commission: The ITC Guidelines for Translating and Adapting Tests (ITC, 2017). We recommend that future researchers who want to translate and use DMQ 18 follow these guide-lines to both translate the questionnaire and assess its cultural appropriateness in their language and culture; and also provide evidence for the reliability and validity of resulting data. In addition, the chapter is an overview about validity issues and biases in regard to making such translations. It also provides a step-by-step approach to what we believe are best practices for doing translations, using examples based on a proposed translation from English into a Southeast Asian language. Furthermore, the chapter provides detailed examples of how to provide evidence for the reliability and validity of hypothetical data from the use of the DMQ in this Southeast Asian culture.en_US
